| Top 10 computer games |
[Jul. 3rd, 2007|08:49 am] |
Hi
so edge magazine have published a list of top 10 computer games, a list that i agree with in some parts, but not in others (still cant believe HL2 beat the oriinal, sure it was good as far as sequels go, but i didnt think it was as good as teh original.
Heres teh top 10
1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina 2. Resident Evil 4 3. Super Mario 64 4. Half Life 2 5. Super Mario World 6. Zelda: A Link to the Past 7. Halo: Combat Evolved 8. Final Fantasy XII 9. Tetris 10. Super Metroid
Now, i own 6, have completed 5 (and thats only cos you cant complete tetris) and also would have got teh latest FF game had i got a PS2.
Interesting to note is that mario was also at 11th, yet there was no entry in the entire 100 for sonic.... guess that solves whos better :P
Now, this vote was more influenced on gameplay tyhan graphics, and just for that, and halop coming high, i may have to try halo. My only problem with it is its a console FPS, and they commonly ruin FPSes (then forget to make em great in ports). I know that deus ex 2 being designed for teh x box as well ruined that in a lot of ways, and enjoy things like being able to lean, and other stuff you can only do with the sheer amount of keys a keyboard gives you.
Although, on teh note of console FPSes, i bought CoD3 for teh wii the other day, and think that teh wii may actually be able to support FPSes well. Now, IMO the wii is much more of a party games machine, however, i was surprised by just how well the console runs single player games as well. The controls are really comfortable to hold, and i think itll definately do well, especially if they dont restrict it to only having games that use the motion detectors of teh wii.
In other news, im back in cambridge after my stay at halls ended, so atm im very bored, and back to a LOT more gaming than i was doing in london. So if anyone fancies saving me from this boredom and meeting up to do something, drop me an email so i can arrange going out in advance, like i have to do in this stupid ****hole of a place, where you cant just go out cos you feel like it :S |

HI
when you find out that someone you met randomly knows someone from your halls its a coincidence.
When you find out that that person in your halls nows someone form ther school thats going to cambridge, its a coincidnce
When you ind that that friend is the lab partner of someone you knew at vith form, its just freaking wierd......
But yeah i met joes lab partner through a friend at uni who i only met cos i met his other friend on a bus back from the ministry of sound....
(oh and if this doesnt make much sense thats cos ive not oly been drinking, but been on the shisha for the first time, and can i tell you what a head rush!

| [ | mood |
| | angry | ] | Hi
Whats the worst way you can think of being woken up in the middle of the night?
so far a couple of times my roomate ahs woken me up in the middle of the night by snoring/sleeptalking. While a bit annoying, ive jsut gone back to sleep pretty soon afterwards.
Just now however, my roomate woke me up by ewither sleeptalking, or talking on the phone, an dpreceded n with a 2-3 minute monologue abou thow much of a freak I am.
Needless to say i was pissed off, so i went out, just to try and think things over a bti (just to the kitchen) but when i got to the door, found hed left teh latch up. Released that and he "woke up" and acted all confused.
Now i dont know whether he really was sleeptalking, o just was trying to cover up after being caught out, but so far ive heard him sleeptalk a fair bit, and its always som eincomprehensible babble, but this was sustained, until i said his name, and clear as anything.
Im currently in a really big mood with him cause when i go to bed earlier than him, he leaves his light on, yet when its the other way round, he expects me to turn my light off, AND turn my music off/down to very quiet. (i wouldnt mind doing this if it wasnt for the fact that hed kept me awake, typing to people on msn, with the light on full.
Ok guess i shoudl just stop there before this becomes a rant of ravenesque proportions, but yeah, im NOT happy.

| firefox |
[Oct. 27th, 2006|12:29 am] |
Hi
So downloaded firefox 2 especting it to be the same but better than firefox 1. So far i got a couple of niggles with it.
First it doesnt seem to respond as well when there are multiple tabs open (i woudl regularly have 30-40 tabs open in firefox 1, but cant do that in this(dont ask me why i had that many, i just always have lots :P)
Second is the way it acts if there is more than so many tabs, rather than the old method of shrinking each tab it makes you scroll from one end to another, which can ge tkinda annoying, especially if you didnt realise that it would not shrink the tabs and kept clicking and getting annoyed that it didnt open up.
(have also downloaded and tried the new internet explorer, its not so annoying to use as firefox, but the thing i dont like is the fact that you cant

| I thought uni was supposed to be hard.... |
[Oct. 24th, 2006|01:27 pm] |
Hi
OK, im in a pretty bad mood at the moemnt, for the simple reason that i dont have enoguh stuff to do. Pretty much everyone i know is doing loads and loads of work, but i just dont ahve that work to do at the moment. So far in teh 2 and a half weeks i have been at uni, i have learnt practically nothing new, most of it having already been covered in a-levels.
The one bit i was kinda looking forward to, the programming part ahs turned out to be a complete and utter waste of time, most of it is simply copying and pasting. To give you an indication of the level of experience they expect, ill give you an extract from teh workscheme:
move the cursor into the browser window where the text is to be copied from move the cursor to the left of the first character of the text you want to copy click the left mouse button and hold it down drag the cursor up to and after the last character of the text you want to copy releasing the button leaves the block of text highlighted select Edit|Copy option (or type ^C) to copy the marked block into a memory buffer - Note there is no visible confirmation move the cursor into the editor window where the text is to be pasted move the cursor to the position the text will be dropped - you may need to tidy up a little if you missed the odd character, or copied some text more than once, so ensure the code looks similar to original select the Edit|Paste option (or type ^V) to drop the buffered text into the window compile and run the new project
When i saw that i just burst out laughing.
So no work, means i can party lots right? Wrong, even though i live in london, the main problem is finding peopel to go out with, practically everyone else seems to ahve loads of work to do, meaning that theyre not really up for going out.
Now sorry if i seem to be boasting about this, but it is actually pissing me off, i came to uni expecting a challenge, having been through a-levels without really workign, and so far it just seems to be more of the same. Lectures are mostly a waste of time, labs are kinda interesting, btu we get way too long for waht we ahve to do, and its jsut putting me in a bad mood at the moment. Hopefully it will get more interesting soon, but im not that hopeful....

Hi
so basically i love my timetable. One mrning of nine o clock (means waking up at about 7:50) 3 of 10 oclock (8:50) and one of 11 o'clock (9:5-!!!) -= love ^_^ especially when one of the 10 o clocks goes to 11 after about halfway through teh term :D
(considering most other people ive spoken too have staraight 9 o'clock starts, i think its pretty good :D)
The one thing i dont like aso far abotu imerial is the (amazing) lack of girls. Overall percentage is something like 65:35, but considering there are some courses (medicine) that seperate tehmselves form the rest, you are normally in situtions with at least 3 guys to every girl, its just not fair!!!!

Hi
Went out last night to the mean fiddler, (club linked with the astoria). and it was sooo much fun. Before ive never really seen teh love of clubbing, but i guess thats just cos i dont really like the music there. When you hear the likes of yeah yeah yeahs, the rakes, metric, the young knives, and the white stripes, all within about 1 and a half hours of the standard club music being played (there was also a live band there that played for about an hour) you know your onto a winner :D

Hi
Im pretty sure raven hates me at the moment.... Not sure shell realise yet, but quite sure she will when i say what im about to ^_^
Living in london is great, everythings in walking distance, can meet up with firends without ages of planning, can spontaneously go out, withoput having to factor in hour long transport times, no need to worry abotu getting back in time for stuff, etc etc.
The one thing that i have mentioned earlier is the cars everywhere. If a road does not have at least 5 porsches in it, its not a proper road. Oh and along with that about 10 bmws, ferrrari down most roads, and a lamborghini showroom, about two minutes walk from halls ^_^.
In other news, so far im having more fun than ive had so far,

Hi
Well my brother told me to have a look at this site, and it seems quite good.
Basically you install a plugin for your media player, and it will then record everything you play on that, it then creates a record fo everything you listen to, and will recommend similar bands for you to listne to.
So anyway, give it a try: www.last.fm

| An ODe to late buses |
[Jan. 18th, 2006|06:59 pm] |
Hi
Wahoo my bus was late >_<
Yes i am pleased my bus was late. No, i have not gone completely crazy, i am just pleased that i managed to catch the last bus back out of ton at 6:10 rather than 6:05. otherwise, i would be screwed, majorly, like still being in cambridge for a t least another 2 hours, with no way back >_<.
However, buses being late are only good when you are. Even then 5 minutes is a normal maximum for the amount of time before you decide that youve missed that and do something else. When a bus doesnt turn up, its not good. Especially when that bus is the last one that can get you into college in time for your exam, despite the fact it gets you in at least 2 and a half hours before the exam. Frortunately however i was able to ge ta lift from my mum in.

| friday the 13th.... |
[Jan. 13th, 2006|04:39 pm] |
Hi
So another pointless friday, one lesson doing practically nothing with mrs Jones, followed by another lesson doing practically nothing with Mr Massey, and thats all. Kinda makes the day seem pointless.
Except the fct that had loads of fun in period 3 playing on www.googlefight.com
ere are a few things it says: Mario beats Sonic Nintendo beats Sega Cambridge United beats Manchester United (OK, so even i cant believe this one, but its true >_<) Call of duty beats Halo
And then theres the fact that i found out i was TeH uber Spamzor, with 8760 pages for oljomo (and as im the only one with this name, thats a lot of spamming >_<)
after that we went to find stuart for robotics, but he wasnt in ph3 when we checked tehre, but appeared late, (after wed gone round half the college looking for him >_<), so that tehn meant that i ended up missin the bus i was hoping to catch home :(
Ah well, ill spend the time in town instead. I ended up buying CoD2 in game (WTF cheaper there than online?????????, an dthe collectors edition cheaper than regular????), as well as getting some stuff my mum wanted me to get, and despite my best efforts to miss the bus, i still made it (fortunately the bus driver had stopped to talk to his friend.

Hi
YAY, nearly christmas :D
In other news, i got a few of my older games running on windows xp (found out about a set as compatability thing, works wonders for old games :D), so have been playing fairly retro games for a bit. (dont think ive played anything newere than 4 years old for a fortight :P)
And I hate wrapping presents up. Especially squishy things, and hardback books. With other things you can normally just push hard and get the stuff to work, but with those you actually have to judge where things go.
ah well, random update, (something i dont normally do, but had to break up jays spam :P

[Nov. 16th, 2005|07:07 pm] |
Hi
So taoday was such a great day in theory, go in, first lesson a complete dos (tutor) second almost as bad (mechanics, and then after that there was only physics, and then it was a bit of helping and off home, to arrive at normal time for a wednesday, looking forward to a thursday with absolutely no college on.
So that was the plan, and it all went fine up until the last, part about getting hom eon time. First i went out to catch the "normal" bus, (well, i see it as normal as it goes at the time college should finish, despite the fact that i get to go home on an earlier bus 3 days out of the 5 :D) got there 5 mins before it normally got there. It was freezing, so i "only" weaited until 10 minutes after it should have come to go back inside and help a bit more deciding to get the 5:25 from opposite the college, so after 30 mins of helpig ot eat the food in the physics department ;)i went back outside to catch this bus. When it came it was 5 minutes late and only a single decker, but i was glad to see it actually there. That was until i realised it wasnt going to stop for me despite me waving it down. This really pissed me off, as the last bus from cambridge wasnt much later, and i wasnt sure whether i could get it from opposite the college. So i went back to college to check (in not the best of moods) and found that i had 20 minutes to get to drummer street, as it did go a different way to the other buses.
Thinking that buses would run at the same speed at 20 to 6 as they do in the middle of the day i decided to get a c1, (foolish i know, but i dont normally have to get a bus from college to town in rush hour)and as a consequence ended up getting more and more stressed as the bus seemed to be going purposefully slow, and realised that if i did manage to catch the last bus back i would be catching it only by a few seconds. (and the alternative to catching it would be to wait until god knows what time for one of my parents to pick me up, as my mum was out running cubs, and my dads phone was engaged. Fortunately i managed to get to drummer street just in time (by this i mean i got on the us and tythe driver shut the dorrs behind me) and eventually got home at 6:45, over an hour and a half later than originally planned(and two and a half hours after best case scenario, which would have been leaving open evening early)
So not happy with stagecoach at the moment, its bad enough that they run a skeleton servic ethat finishes at 6, but when they decide to randomly drive past people waiting to get on the bus, it really doesnt help things.

Hi
OK, so my parents arent telling me anything... I know tim has contacted tehm, but they havent told me why/what he said/how hes doing at the moment. Its really pissing me off that they wont tell me this stuff.
I have also found the most depressing song in the world for me, timothy by jet, when i listen to it i almost burst into tears everytime.

Hi
So, it probably is time to use this as it should be. ill ty to keep it up, but doubt it will keep my interest for that long.
So, im at home alone again, my parents and little brother having gone camping, (they chose the best weather possible too...) so i get to do what i like, and i can watch what i like on the tv, plus spend as long in my room as i like without getting moaned at it really is nice, the only problem is that i have to cook my own dinner, and that isnt exactly that bad, as it means i get to eat stuff i like, rather than just eat what gets put in front of me like normal.
work is boring. Really boring, im glad that i only have 8 mor edays of it, but at least it gets me money, and i would probably be just as bored were i spending the holiday at home, even when im at home i cnat seem to concentrate on doing one thing, tending to flick between reading, to watching the tv, to playing pc, to reading, to playing consoles to....you get the picture. This is really wierd for me, as i tend to be kinda obsessive in the things i do, tending to do one thing without stopping for a long time, i suppose it might just be nerves about thursday, (god i cant wait til i know what i got, at least my mum should stop moaning at me about french) but i never had this sort of thing over gcses, so im not too sure.
On another note, i really need to arrange to meet people some time, i havent seen anyone since the end of school. and i need to sort out getting my new bus pass, im sure there was something i was supposed to pick up from school but forgot though.
I really dont get how raven manages to make her posts so darn long.

Hi
Right physics exam has gone, and it went more or less alright, or at least the first one did, section c wasnt just writing, and it was about things i knew so was much easier than i was anticioating. All th calculations were also fine, generally the whole paper was good, and i was happy in the ten minutes or so between the papers, the it got to the second paper and i had a look at the section c to see what it was like. At first glance they seemed ok, more or less what i knew for it, however when i actually got on to doing it it was the subtleties that brought me down, the way that i had to be able to describa a use for the first one and the fact that i had to explain using sperposition that i found hard, plus i couldnt think of thee effects...
Oh yeah, stats, i havent said anything about that yet, basically it was really easy, all it was for the first 5 questions as keying things into the calculator, it felt weird though, as you typed about ten numbers into the calculator, got a number and that was worth about 5 marks, and to think i was worried about the exam being hard, once i had a graphical alculator (someting i got four days before the exam) it was going to be a walk in the park...
My birthday (and coincidentally the end of my exams) in a weeks time, i cant wait!!!!

Hi
Right first "real" exam down the drain, i dont really count french as a proper exam because i know its not really important, im dropping it next year and im still doing 4 so it was just an extra i did (at elast thats what i keep telling myself so i dont get pissed off about how crap im gonna do...)
Raven you dont want to read the rest of this judging by your latest entry
C1 was much easier than i thought it would be, and i didnt exactly think it was hard, but i made a couple of silly mistakes on C2, thankfully i realised and corrected them, for example i differentiated when the question said integrate and silly things like that. I actually noticed these mistakes, which is for me a first, i can normally sit there for ages checking and rechecking something i know i have gone wrong on and not being able to see where i have gone wrong on it. And to top it all off, verall i think i spent nearly half the time of the exams playing with the pretty colours on my brand new graphical calculator...
Electronics tomorrow, which should be another fun one.

Hi
First thing to note, io really should be more imaginative in my post titles, (although its not likely), as at this rate im going to post every one as xth post, great fun. On another note study leave has started yay, or at least thats what i thought at first. Now im having second thoughts, no lessons, true, but also no talking to people i dont exactly count as friends, (you knoww the sort you enjoy talking to in lessons, but once the lessons over you go back to your normal friends), but enjoy to talk to nonetheless. Also, it means that i am likely to have about 4 weeks of being moaned at by my parents for not doing enough work. But i should (hopefully) get lie in every day, so at least thats good.
My mum went on a camping trip with the cubs this weekend, some sort of course thing, and managed to forget her boots, instead taking two right foot wellington boots, one of which was two sizes too small. And when i was at atc she moaned at me for not haing the right things. Needlss to say, we had to go take her some more boots, although some good did come of it, my dad decided to buy me a bar of bourneville chocolate (mmmmm bourneville) so i suppose i cant complain that much.
Oh and to stop anyone else asking why this isnt yellow and black, its cos i couldnt find a default colour scheme that was yellow and back, and couldnt be bothered trying to find out how to make my own, so i went for green instead, (like my room, which is green, cos my little brother had already nabbed yellow and black.
Wow it is actually quie fun writing these things i see why people do it now...
